Have we told y'all how much we love Spain? WE LOVE SPAIN! We love the food, the coffee, the scenery, the history, the castles, the beer, the wine, the cava, and especially THE PEOPLE. WE LOVE IT LOVE IT LUUUUUUUUUV IT!!! This is every other sentence in conversations. We spent the first four days in Sant Pol with Maria's family. We felt right at home even with the language barrier and have experienced the real Spanish deal. Her father cooks delicious meals and we sit around a big table laughing and making fun of each others English and Spanish. Bops and Cops have promised to learn Spanish because everyone knows English and we are embarrassed. We have learned a couple of words. Cullereta (little spoon), Tengo hambre ( I am hungry), esta loca ( she is crazy), donde esta el bano ( where is the bathroom). We are well on our way to being fluent in Spanish. We had dinner at Maria's cousins restaurant with some of her friends. Then we went to a bar on the beach to "chiflau" (chill out). Just some local slang for ya.
Barcelona!!! Maria's town is just a short train ride from one of the greatest cities in the world. Barca Barca!! We decided to dive into a little culture and visited the Picasso museum. This did not disappoint and we learned a great deal about this artist from Spain. Keeping with the theme of Picasso, Maria took us to a restaurant called 4 Cats. This was a popular hang out of Picasso and we could see why as we wined and dined. We even shut the place down, making friends with the servers and manager which led to a free round of cava!! We also had a special guest join us... AINA!! Another Spanish Rose that Bops has missed dearly. We spent the afternoon reminiscing of our adventures at Shenandoah and learning about the new things happening in each others lives. It was Cops first time meeting Aina and they hit it off with flying colors!

Before heading out of town, we had to make a stop to see the cutest lady in Sant Pol. Yes, that would be Maria's precious grandmother. She helped us make sandwiches for the car and showed us her lovely home.
 |
| She is about as tender as they come. |

We waved goodbye to Sant Pol for the next ten days and headed out on the road. We made a lot of progress... 40 kilometers in 2 hours!!!!!! Maria ven aqui was thrilled. Stuck in traffic and Bops and Cops can't drive manual vehicles OR read the directions (which are in Catalan). It didn't help that we went to bed the night before at 3 am!!!
 |
| Spanish traffic jam. The cars are smaller but still just as annoying. |
Once we finally got some open space on the road... we were able to enjoy the scenery and beautiful drive. Who knew that the south of Spain would be so incredible.
We also saw the mascot of the country. That's right. A bull. On the top of a mountain.

| After a short drive of ten hours, we finally made it to Cabo de Gata! We were unaware that this is a huge national park or natural park as they call it. We pull up to the accomadations and immediately fall in love. It's really hard to explain this little bohemian commune. It's literally in the middle of the desert but has some of the most incredebile beaches just 10km away. Quite impressive. By now, you know the importance of finding food and the local beverage for the kitsos. Lucky for us, there is an adorable resturaunt/Moraccon tent that serves delicious tapas and sangria. Unfortunately, Cops and Bops were surprised to find that fruit flies also loved sangria and had drank themselves drunk in our glasses. Maybe we will get the sangria in Granada. It has been a very relaxing three days which has been a great way for us to spend the first days of our road trip. It's really hard to explain the landscape here. You are driving in the middle of the desert and then out of nowhere comes the sea with huge capes and rocky ledges that make great photo opportunities. So now we will create a photo story of the first leg of our trip. |

So we are off to Granada in the morning! We are going to see The Alhambra. Do the research and google it. It's pretty important to Spain. Read up on your history so you will know what your are looking at in our next blog. Us kitsos can't do everything for you readers :)
Much love and light. The Travelin' Kitsos
Some of you may know that when Maria ven aqui came to the states we did a road trip through the Southwest to see the Grand Canyon. Well, we ran into some elks or as Maria ven aqui calls them "The Ellkis". When we found the sign for "The Elkis" we took a picture so we could remember how terrifying they were at midnight. Guess what we could run into here? Wonder which would be scarier. Watch out for the bulls.
sounds like you are all having a blast! love the pics - so artsy you are :-) Can't wait to hear all about it in person. Keep the stories coming!
